What’s cooking in Denver?
Our house in Denver is excited to be a part of this blog, and the no-eating-out-for-a-month challenge! Denver is a great place for people who like to cook. There are farmers markets all over in the summer, and people value high quality produce and meats here so there is a lot of access to free range chickens, grass finished beef, Colorado grown lamb…. etc. We also have a surprisingly large number of ethnic grocery stores where we can get all of the fun asian, south american, african and european foods and ingredients for exciting cooking. Learning to cook in Denver’s high 5,280 feet elevation takes a little experimentation. Water gets to a boil more quickly here, but boils at a lower temperature so some dishes can be a little tricky until you get the hang of it (rissotto, pudding, candies, etc.) and baking with yeast or any leaveners takes some trial and error. Plus the dry climate can be either a benefit or a drawback, depending on what you are cooking. I hope you enjoy the recipies that come out of our kitchen over the next 4 weeks, we are looking forward to sharing!
