Drunken peaches

When it comes to fresh summer produce, it’s less about recipes and more about letting their purest nature shine through. With these peaches from a local orchard (http://terhuneorchards.com/), the second best way to eat them (first being straight out of their brown paper bag) was drunken. No, not us. The peaches!
Essentially, slice up your peaches in either halves or smaller chunks, put them in a tupperware, sprinkle with sugar (adjust based on the sweetness of your peaches) and then splash a few tablespoons of your favorite adult beverage over (white wine, whiskey, etc). We used the last little dregs of vodka left over from a vodka loving house guest. All it takes is a few hours in the fridge before your peaches transcend their basic selves and become slightly translucent and absolutely deliciously intoxicating (with flavor, not the booze…yeesh, we’re not lushes!).

This would be tasty served with lightly sweetened whipped cream or yogurt…we ate ours plain for the most part but I absolutely loved eating them with spoonfuls of tart greek yogurt for breakfast.

It’s really painful that after we say goodbye to our summer goodies you guys are reaching the peak of the season. Enjoy the off the tree spectacular and we’ll try some alcohol enhanced freestones next summer.

Until you have eaten great fresh peaches you can not begin to imagine their mouthwatering goodness. Your photos worked to remind me!! Bet other fruit would enjoy the sauce too! Strawberries or raspberries come to mind, with dark chocolate…heart healthy, too!!
